kalashimaHailing from Italy’s red hot Puglia region, Kalàscima makes their long-awaited US live debut this October with concerts in New York and Miami.  The Salento-based 6-piece band’s innovative mix of Electronic Music and Southern Italian Folk has made them a festival favorite for the past fifteen years — from La Notte della Taranta to international tour stops in Australia, Latin America, the Middle East and Northern Europe.  Leading off with a showcase at Gotham’s top World Music boîte DROM on Wednesday, October 14th, Kalàscima goes on to headline this year’s Miami edition of the annual Italian Hit Week festival on Sunday, October 18th at the North Beach Bandshell.

A Top-10 entry for “Psychedelic Trance Tarantella” in the global trend-setting World Music Charts Europe for April 2015 marked Kalàscima’s second album and their first release on Ponderosa Music & Art, also the label home to Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino and Ludovico Einaudi’s Taranta Project.  “Psychedelic Trance Tarantella” features the piano work of maestro Ludovico Einaudi on the track “Due mari” (Two seas).  It has been nominated for 2015’s Best Album in Dialect by Italy’s prestigious Tenco Prize.
